Fluke 772 – Milliamp Process Clamp Meter

The Fluke 772 Milliamp Clamp Loop Meter expands on the capabilities of the basic 771 model to offer comprehensive functionality for testing control system inputs/outputs (I/O) and current-to-pressure converters (I/Ps). This tool saves significant time by allowing you to measure $4–20 \text{ mA}$ signals up to five times faster than traditional digital multimeters, all without breaking the loop. This means troubleshooting can be performed on a live device, eliminating the need to power down and risk missing critical events in the ongoing process.

The Fluke 772 is equipped to both source and simulate $4–20 \text{ mA}$ signals, which is vital for testing control system I/O. It can also measure $4–20 \text{ mA}$ signals using traditional in-circuit measurement. For comprehensive transmitter testing, the 772 includes simultaneous $\text{mA}$ in-circuit measurement along with a built-in $24 \text{ V}$ loop power supply to power the transmitter. For remote testing and diagnostics, the meter offers automatic ramping and stepping of the $4–20 \text{ mA}$ output, including linear ramp or $25\%$ step output. It also measures $10 \text{ to } 50 \text{ mA}$ signals in older control systems using its $99.9 \text{ mA}$ range.

Designed for practical use in industrial settings, the 772 features a detachable clamp with an extension cable, making it easy to take measurements in tight or hard-to-reach locations. The tool includes a Measurement Spotlight to illuminate hard-to-see wires in dark enclosures. The dual backlit display clearly shows both the $\text{mA}$ measurement and the percentage of the $4 \text{ to } 20 \text{ mA}$ span. Additional features, such as the Hold function for capturing changing measurements and automatic power-off with backlight timeout, contribute to efficiency and extend battery life.
